SOMETHING WANTED.

(To the Editor). Sir,—Willi the approach jof winter evenings I would like to make a plea for the instruction and amusement of both young and old through the columns of your paper. One constantly reads the reports of country districts and their entertainments, and it seems to me that in most of the above there is something wanted. Generally the account is little more than a report of the local concert and dance. Xow. Sir, these things are all verv well in their place, but of what real value are they to us? As a ism community can we not provide something of more material value for both young and old through the coming winter? Ts there not in connection with our churches and Sunday schools someone who is able and willing to conduct a. singing class or a debating society? For there arc in almost every district people whose consciences cannot allow them to join in cither the euchre party or the dance, which are neither of them instructive in the truest sense of the word. In this district, I see a number of bright, talented young bovs and girls —some fresh from the schoolroom —who ought to be thinking of more serious things than pleasure. I think it would be quite possible to arrange something in this district at least irrespective of class or creed that would be both entertaining and instructive for young and old, and sincerely hope someone will come forward for' the general good—T al "' ° t( " A MOTHER.
