WASTE PAPERS AND MEAT WRAPPERS.

To the Editor. Sir, —T. wish you would draw attention to the fact that the old papers from the public reading room find their way into butchers' shops for use as wrappers for meat. I don't know of anything more serious in connection with our food supply, and certainly think you might point out what is being done. I myself have seen all sorts and conditions of men reading these papers in the reading room, and seen men wet their fingers to turn over the pages. Fancy getting a chop wrapped in a paper that a dead-beat or a consumptive had licked! It's awful, and I trust that some steps will be taken to stop what is a filthy and dangerous practice—l am, etc., DISGUSTED.
