Mr. Trelie, Minister for Agriculture, gave evidence that the State .Savings Bank provided £1,000.000 per annum for settlement purposes. He had already received applications for £1,200,000, anil was confident he could place £3,000,000 during the current year in assisting bona fide settlers. The banks were very tight, and the people were not met in any shape or form to the extent they should ,be for the development of the country. The present harbor improvements would provide 42,000 feet of wharf frontage at a cost of £0,500,000. They would take ten years to complete, but at the present rate of development they would be fully wanted by that time.
