AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY.
APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSORS. Per Press Association. Auckland, April 21, Matters in connection with the appointment of professors to fill the positions soon to be vacated by Professors A. P. W. Thomas and F. D. Brown were before the University College Council today. The committee appointed to deal with the matter put various suggestions before the meeting. It was ultimately agreed that the Council of Anckland University College request the Government to give it the benefit of the services of the High Commissioner in Loudon in inviting applications for the three positions of Professors of Chemistry, Physics and Biology, at salaries of £7OO per annum for three years, terminable at twelve months' notice from either side; that the Government be requested to invite Parliament to grant an additional £IOOO per annum to the college to meet the additional expense, including the employment of Lecturer in Otology at £350 per annum; that an advertisement for three new professors be published in the months of July, August and September; that the Council be authorised to communicate direct with the High Commissioner on the subject : that the High Commissioner, in recommending three professors for appointment. be instructed to associate with himself Mr. W. Pember Reeves, formerly Agent-General for New Zealand, and Mr. Joynt. agent in London for the New Zealand University; that applications for any of the new professorships from New Zealand or Australia must be sent to the Registrar; that saloon passages in steamers from London be allowed to the three professors by whatever route they desire: that the three professors should arrive in Auckland not later than Febmnrv. 1014.
