In connection vvitli Vlu: arrival of the battleship New Ze:tlaml in New Zealand waters, the Coventor. at the request of tiic Prime .Minister, sent tin; following cablegram u> England: To His Majesty the King: Oil liehaif of myself and the Government and people of New Zetland I desire to tender respectful congratulations on the safe arrival in Wellington harbor of 11.M.5. New Zealand.—-Lord Liverpool.

To the Secretary for the Colonies: On behalf of myself and the Government and people of New Zealand, 1 desire to express our hearty congratulations to Ilis j Majesty's Govt rumen t on the safe arrival in Wellington harbor of H.M.S. New Zealand, and our satisfaction and appreciation at the excellent manner in which the contract has been carried out, in producing such a magnificent vessel as an addition to the Royal Navy—Lord Liverpool. To the Secretary of State for the Colonies, for transmission to the Lord Commissioners of the Admiralty: On behalf of myself and the Government I desire to congratulate your lordships on the safe arrival in New Zealand waters of the magnificent specimen of naval architecture which bears the name of this Dominion.—Lord Liverpool. ' The Governor received the following gracious reply from the King: I thank your Government and the people of New Zealand for the kind message, and congratulate them on the safe arrival of their fine ship. —(Signed). The reply from the Secretary of State for the Colonies is as follows:—In reply to your telegrams of April 12, His Majesty's Government appreciate highly your messages, and learn with great pleasure of the satisfaction with which 11.M.5.
