TIMBER TRAFFIC.
MAIX TRUNK OUTPUT. As an indication of the importance of the timber industry between Taumarunui and Mangaweka, a correspondent of the Auckland Herald quotes the quantities railed from the stations in the district during the years 1911 and 1912. They are: 1011. 1912. feet. . feet. Taumarunui .... 7,646,000 14,162,100 Waimarino 4,405,000 <1,040,000 Ohakune 12,080,000 19,454,000 Rangataua .... 9,279,400 11,285,000 Waiouru 1,229.500 1,196,400 Mataroa 5,60.5,400 6,990,000 Taihape 2,869,000 2,098,000 Utiku 4,119,400 4,310,100 Mangaweka .... 94,800 450,000 Totals 47,394,500 07,016,200 ■lncrease for 1912 -9,021,700 feet. 1 It will be seen from the table that last year the output at Taumarunui was almost double that of 1911, and that it ranks second only to the Ohakune district, which of course includes the whole of the mills between there and Raetihi —all considerable contributors to the total of that station. The figures for 1912-1313 are not yet available, but tlioy will show a substantial all-round increase.
