Paymaster Cerne, a naval aviator, was ■conversing with Lieutenant Lushington, who was about to make an ascent, when the engine of Lushington's aeroplane suddenly started. Cerne was knocked down, and the propeller cut off his foot and smashed his thigh. He died shortly afterwards.
AEROPLANE FOR NEW ZEALAND,
Wellington, Wednesday.
Messrs. Coward and Sons, proprietors of the Standard of Empire newspaper, have presented an aeroplane to the New Zealand Government. It is not stated what class of aeroplane it is, but it is of the latest type, with modern improvements. The gift will he used for military purposes.
