I EMPIRE PICTURES. Without doubt the star item of Iha I bi-weekly change of programme at I.ha Empire Picture Palace is a tale of Australia in the old convict days, entitled "Margaret Catchpole." It deals with a girl'a love for a man who was convicted of a crime and sent to the penal settlement at Sydney. Margaret Catchpole, to be near him, dressed herself aa a man and followed him. The drama was taken in Australia by an Australian company. This item was supported by a strong programme. "The Way of the Mountains" was a stirring drama of the Cumberland mountaineers, whose way of settling quarrels with firearms have made them notorious the world over. Two men, Taylor and Don, were in lor* with the same girl. The girl favored Taylor, and when one day Don made lov« to the girl in rather a demonstrative fashion, her calls for help brought Taylor on the scene. He gave Don a good thrashing. Don, when a safe distance away, tried to shoot Taylor, but killed the girl's young brother Tommy instead. Taylor followed Don, but in the ensuing struggle was left for dead. Don then told the people that Taylor had killed the boy, but Taylor, with the aid of the girl, came upon the scene and completely turned the tables. The truth being out. Don soon received rough and ready justice at the hands of the mountaineers. "The Cattle Rustlers" was a Selig Western drama, depicting the cattle rustlers, or thieves, at their nefarious work. Of course, the hero triumphed in the end, the rustler gang being completely wiped out. "A Day on Board a Spanish Cruiser" was a very interesting film, the daily routine work on the warship being very interesting. Besides these, a number of very laughable films were also screened, amidst hilarious applause. THEATRE ROYAL* PICTURES.
