EX-DETECTIVE MILLER.
SENT BACK TO ROTO ROA. Auckland, April 17. Jolm Paton Miller, ex-detective, concerning whose committal to Roto Roa, Island in September last, there has been some agitation for rehearing his case, was taken into police custody to-day, to be returned to Roto Roa for not having complied with the terms of his probation.
The condition of his release was that lie take out a prohibition order against himself for twelve months, and not to be convicted for any breach of the order during the period.
Miller states he declined because he is not a drunkard, and has never been charged or convicted for drunkenness, and because the application for shearing the charge of habitual drunkenness was based on the ground of others stating that he was a man of intemperate habits.
On appeal to the Minister he was warned that he must return to the island, or the license liberating him would be revoked, and, declining to do so. the police were compelled to take action.
this morning at the home of a brother-in-law. His condition alarmed the family at an early hour, and the doctor Mas called, but before his arrival the man Was dead. Consumption is supposed to be the cause. A FATAL FALL. . Auckland, Saturday. Bernard MeCa 11'ery, aged 80, died in the hospital as the result of a fall into a cellar at the Thames Hotel. FALL FROM A CART. Christchurch, Last Night. Richard John Sunderland, a baker. G8 years of age, who was taken to the hospital on April !), suffering from injuries received by falling off a cart, died to-day. The inquest was adjourned till to-morrow.

John Poppelwell, a shunter at the Mina railway station, near Cheviot, between 17 and IT 1 ,/, years of age, single, whilst engaged in shunting operations yesterday afternoon, was knocked down by a truck, which passed over his left arm and leg. almost severing them from the body. He was brought to town and taken to the hospital, where lie died at < 9.15 p.m. An inquest was opened to-day. wlien evidence as to identification and the nature of the injuries was taken. The coroner, in adjourning the inquest' till Wednesday, drew the attention of a representative of the Railway Department to the fact that deceased being represented by counsel indicated that an attitude adverse to the Department would probably be taken up.
LYSOL POISONING

The body of a middle-aged man, as yet unidentified, was found this morning on the section of the new V.M.C'.A. building, which is not yel; occupied. A Ivsol bottle and a glass were lying beside the bodv.
