THE ALLIES FIGHTING,

INTERESTING SIDELIGHTS,

THE PART THAT GREECE HAS ' PLAYED. ■ , Under a recent date, Mr. Frank Dyer, Vice-Consul for the Dominion for-Greece, has received a letter from a friend in Athens, bearing on . the Balkan war, in which he says:— Since- Eastern political matters have altogether changed, we are now going to be a bigger nation, nearly double in size, and more respected by other nations. I think Greece has done wonders and has proved to the world the patriotism and strength of its nation. I have Jio doubt you are well acquainted with the hews of the Balkan war against Turkey. Greece has played a great part in this war by her land and sea forces. If it had not been for our naval Bquadron, which closed up the Turkish navy in the Straits of Dardanelles, we would not have had sucli fine and quick reseults. Greece has mustered over 200.000 men, well controlled and disciplined, who have fought bravely and with enthusiasm against their foe, in spite of insuperable hardships and severe climatic conditions. We have conquered a large slice of Macedonia, of the Aegean Island, and the province of Epirns. south of Albania. We got 45,000 Turkish soldiers and over 1000 officers as prisoners, and innumerable quantities of war spoils, amounting to many millions of francs, \\ e are fighting now in Epirus, where an armv of 100,000 men under the fchifcf command of our Crown Prince operates. We expect very soon to hear of large battles to have been commenced, for the taking of the citv of Jannia and its surrounding 'provinces, and the surrender of the whole of the Turkish army. After that ( I expect the war will soon come to an end."
