At the Piitnmnyo enquiry Herr Hardenburg denied the allegations of forgery and blackmail. He added that he did not see the actual atrocities, but saw the emaciated natives bearing sores. marks of ill-treatment.
A SUPPRESSED REPORT.

Captain Wliilion denied before the Piitumayo Commission that lie offered to suppress his report to the Foreign Office for a monetary consideration.
HORRIBLE ATROCITIES.
London. April 15.
Captain Whiffen, a Foreign Office official, gave evidence that he was aware of horrible atrocities on his second visit to Piitumayo. He visited Arana, who seemed horrilied, and promised a clean sweep of the company's personnel. Tie met Arana afterwards in London, and Arana asked him what was a fair price for his report to the Peruvian Government. Witness replied that as l/is expenses had been £I4OO he was willing to accept some such sum.
