One of the most interesting features iii t)ie evidence of the Trade Commission was the criticism to which British manufacturers were subjected by Mr. Johnson, Chief Commissioner of be Xcw South Utiles Railways and Tramways, who complained strongly of their apathy with regard to opportunities of trade with the overseas Dominions. For instance, he said that he bad the greatest difficulty early in 1013 in geeting a quotation for thirty thousand tons of rails, which, he declared, was due to an arrangement to pool orders between English, American and Continental manufacturers of rails.
