THE TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIP. | The Stratford Gun Club had a very I successful day at the traps yesterday. Twenty-three gun men from all over the province blazed at the clay pigeons, and some good shooting was done. Greaves, of Hamilton, the winner of the championship, got twenty birds out of ' twenty-one, and blew them into tiny pieces. In the ten-birds match he got nine ,and in the next five out of six, or i a score of 34 birds out of 37. Tuck, the winner of last year's big match, was away down the list yesterday. Mr. G. D. Hunter, the secretary, did excellent work, and there was no hitch. Results:— Taranaki Championship. 21 birds.—,T. W. Greaves (201. 1; F. W. Whittle (101, 2; H. Ashton, 10: R. Knwkev, 10; N. In the Ten-Bird Sweepstake R. Knuckey (18) was first with nine birds, and Casev. Fowler and Greaves also shivered nine birds. Twenty-three competed. Tn the six-birds sweepstake F. W. Whittle, of New Plymouth (IS) was first, Greaves, Holland and Ivirkwood firing off with the winner. In a first miss out match Holland beat Hunter for first prize, and Marsh won the second of these matches. FOOTBALL. Ths Stratford seniors are to play' Eltham at Eltham to-day. The visitors will be represented by W. Woods, E. Bonner, Fearon (2), R. Wood, Tocker,' Oobson. Spratt. Brown (2). and Oliver. Brake loaves Post Office at 2.15. ' ' ' SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

At the Stratford District High School Committee meeting on Tuesdav there were present, Messrs. P. Skoglund (chairman). J- W. Boon, E. Hancock. A. Stewart. S: Clark. J. Jones. G. Smart, J. W. McMillan and.T. C. Fookes.

The Chairman reported the visit of the Chairman of the Taranaki Education Board to enquire into the heating arrangements of the school.

The tender- for firewood was accepted. The Visiting Committee reported that during' the month a wire fence had been erected in the Technical School grounds at a coat of about 15s. _This was necesBiuy to protect part of the garden, and was done at M. Tyrer's request. One of the doors in the infant school required attention, and instructions had been given to have it repaired. The asphalt yard had not vet been repaired, and the Chairman thought it better to have the whole yard done over again, and obtain a price for the work. Tie had since been advised, however, that the work should be delayed until next summer. In the meantime, repairs would have to be done. A couple of loads of gravel were required 'or paths in the Technical School Grounds. The committee was also of the opinion that it would be advisable to have a few yards of gravel placed on the playground on that portion near the edge of the asphalt. At present it was very roug« and dangerous.—Adopted. It was decided to recommend the incominj; committee to attend to the courtyard in the infant school during the winter holidays.

It was decided to procure the necessary gravel for paths. The" report of the inspectors (Messrs. W. A. Ballantvne and K. «. Whetter) stated that the records at the Stratford District High School had been kept in a very satisfactory manner. The regularity of attendance was vevv wood, and the punctvtality satisfactory. The time-tables in use were suitable. Methods adopted were applied with a very satisfactory amount of skill and intelligence. The headmaster had evidently kept a close supervision over the work of the several classes. Order, discipline, and tone wer» very pood. 'Seventy-eight marks out of a possible 100 wore awarded in connection with the beautifying of the school grounds and the supervision of the premises.

The seeretan- of the Taranaki Board wrote that the overseer had been rlircted to report on the cost of installation of the. hot water system at the school. The Board also notified that the holidavs would be as follows for the year 1913:—Winter holidavs from May 23rd to June 2nd. Spring holidays from August 22nd to September Ist, Summer holidavs from December 10th to February 2nd.

On the motion of Mr. Smart, seconded 1)V Mr. McMillan, it was decided that the. committee place on record its appreciation of the ability shown by the chairman dnnn» the year.

Mr. Skoglund brieflv returned thanks. A bonus of £5 was granted to the caretaker. The Chairman was nuthomed to interview the Education Hoard at their next meeting regarding; the proposal to inst.il a hotwater radiator plant in the school. STRAY PARAGRAPHS.
