The various reports were adopted with- ''J out amendment, and several other items. of business transacted, which are re- * ported elsewhere in this issue. j 'FINANCES Traversing the financial position as disclosed in the Town Clerk's annual report, the Mayor said that he was pleased to note that in almost every instance the estimated income had been exceeded. In nil, the excess receipts totalled, ,' rI £3090, while the amount upon which the estimated receipts had not been real- ' ised aggregated only £225. The increase in the overdraft was to due to certain <" extraordinary expenditure, much of '■ which went in revenue-producing works. Some of the items under this heading were:—Streets, £407; purchase of horses, £100; fornga, £108; motor-cvele, £00; reserves. £117; purchase of Leach street, £253; waterworks, £1101; electric light extensions £1408; sinking fund electric light. £72: advance to St. Aubvn Town Board, £250: advance by way of labor to • the St. Anbvn Town Board, £374; St. Aubyn adjustment, £307; tiirrinsr. £6l; carter's cottage, £2O; sundries, £sl; valuatipns, £B3; land for trams, SSO: elec- ' toral roll. £<4; rubbish depot. £10; bathii, £75; Waiwakaiho, £l3; Fitzroy pound* £35; Fire Board subsidy, £l2B. Some of these items were, continued n; the Mayor, the excess of expenditure on particular items. As a set-off tt. this extraordinary expenditure,,a number of events had been underspent, totalling' ' £590. On behalf of the staff, the Town Clerk .(Mr. F. T. Bellringer) suitably acknowledged the Mayor's thanks. The past .year hail been a strenuous one, and the work could never have been accomplished, but for the manner in which the Mayor. Councillors, and staff had all worked harmoniously together. '

ENGINEER'S ANNUAL REPORT. The Borough Engineer (Mr. C. Skitrop), submitted the following report on the work carried out within the for the rear ending March 31, 1913: Streets: Seventy-Ave chains of metalling nnd 875 cubic Yards of patching have been done out of ordinary revenue, making a totnl approximately of Mfl cubic yards for the year. Footpath*: '35 chains of paths have been reformed and repaired; 359 covered with gaol gravel, and 282 chains tarred and sanded. Kerbing and channelling: 34 chain* ■ of kerbing and channelling, 42 chains of kerbing only, and 14 chains of channel only have been laid down and provided with pits and crossings. Watermains: 50 chains of 8-inch water mains and 25 chains of 4-inch have been laid. Road grading and cleaning: 564 chains of streets and roads have been cleaned indformed, nnd 30 with the road grader. ' Maintenance; 72 miles of footpaths and pO miles of streets and roads have been maintained and cleaned. 78 chains of streets have been swept every morning except Sundays and Christmas'Da v.
