JAPAN AND CALIFORNIA.
A PROPOSED BOYCOTT. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received 14, 10.10 p.m. Tokio, April 14. Japan has protested against California's 'anti-Japanese legislation. The irritation is growing. One party proposes a Californian boycott. The newspapers describe the legislation as as great a breach of treaty as the Panama Bill. The Chamber of Commerce has cabled to commercial heads in San Francisco and Los Angelos emphas;sing the probable loss of trade. The .foreign press declare that the ■situation is an object lesson to Japan, where foreigners are not allowed to own land, despite the Diet's law of 1910, which has not been promulgated.
