FIRES.
A BLAZE AT WESTPORT. Per Press Association. Wcstport, Last Xjglit. By a fire which occurred at 10 o'clock hist liig'lit in a lumber room of the premises owned by Mrs. Green and occupied by G. C. Young and Co., auctioneers, some damage was done to the premises, and damage, by lire and wa'.er to the stock. The lire burnt through to the staircase, giving entrance to the Westport Tea-rooms, occupied by Misses Gordon and Bird, but had made little beadway when the brigade arrived 011 the scene, and got it under control. The building was insured, but the amount is unascertainable. Young's stock was valued at £ISOO, and insured for £7OO in the Guardian Ollice. The only damage done to the tea-rooms, which were upstairs, was by smoke. BOARDING-HOUSE DESTROYED. Foxton, Last Night. At 4.15 this morning a 13-roomcd twostoreyed dwelling, owned by W. Bock and occupied by F. Spiers as a boardinghouse, was burned down. Nothing was saved, the inmates escaping in scanty clothing. A gale was blowing at the time, fortunately in the opposite direction to a number of mills. There was an insurance of .ClflOO on the furniture.
