TO PREVENT MOTOR ACCIDENTS
A HE.MAUK.VKLK INTENTION. A remarkable new invention, which it is claimed makes it impossible for a motor car to run over any person is being considered by l,hc London police authorities anil two' of the greatest London omnibus companies. The engineer, was found by an "Express' representative sit his premises on Tower Hill. Mr. Say brought, out his model for inspection. "This little feeler." he said, indicating a slender steel rod in front of the vehicle, "is the keynote of the whole device. The feeler is so sensitive that when it is touched by anything it instantaneously shuts oil' the engine, applies powerful' brakes, drops the life guard or cow catcher in front of the car and the tivo smaller guards in front of each rear wheel. This is done quite independently of the driver, and to touch on similar feelers on cither side of the motor omnibus produces a similar ell'ect. Tt is necessary for the driver to alight and raise the guards, adjust the brakes and restart the engine before he can "go on.
"The second feature of (he device is that the front feeler and catcher follow the direction of the wheels, and may be released when turned in any direction. The (bird feature is that the anus carrying the guards adjust themselves to the condition of the road, the whole device being impervious to vibration. Mv invention is adapted to all mecluinicallypropelled vehicles, including motor cars."
