GOLF.

The official opening of the Xew Plymouth Golf Club will take place to-day week, when a number of scratch games will be played. The opening match of the season will be played subsequently. The programme of games has yet to be drawn up. The greens are coming on well, and are in very fair condition. At the opening of the Witiora Club on Thursday, the president of the Turn hua Club, in the course of his remarks, stated that it might now be said that Xew Plymouth was well supplied with golf links, but it was supplied no more fully in this respect than it was in regard to tennis and bowling clubs. These sporting facilities he regarded as <iu asset of considerable value to the town He was convinced that before manj years- had gone by Xew Plymouth would be the Mecca of tourists and pleasureseekers in New Zealand. It would some day perhaps rival Rotorua. They had no geysers or medicinal springs, but Xew Plymouth possessed what Rotorua had not—health-giving places like, the beach and Mt. Egmont and garlens and scenery of unrivalled beauty. They only wanted to make their attractions' better known and the people would come. Advertising work was now being done by the Tourist and Expansion League, and it was already bearing fruit. Facilities like the provision of golf links must add to the attractiveness of the place from the point of view of holiday-makers and health-seekers, and therefore it was with pleasure that he regarded the inauguration of the new club, and with every hope that it would have a successful career.

At a meeting of the Hawora Ladies' Club this week the following officers were elected:—Captain and handicap-. per, Mrs. Kimbeli; committee, Misses Q. Glenn and P>. Xolan. with the treasurer and secretary, ex officio; tea committee, Mesdames Wallace and Bright; hou. treasurer, Miss Elsie Caplen; lion, secretary, Mrs. Page.
