DISTRICT NEWS.
TATARAIMAKA. (From Our Own Correspondent).' Last Friday was a gala. day, when •Tataraimaka and Okura joined forces to welcome the Premier and Minister for Public Works to the district. The day proved fine, and old and young vied with each other in the heartiness o\ their reception of their distinguished visitors. Of the few speeches which were made in furtherance of our claims to a railway, none were .prolix— Jill were strictly to the point, and Mr. Massey complimented us on "the modesty of our wants." Although Mr. Adkm, chairman of the Tataraimaka and Okuw branch of the Railway League, reminded his audience iliitt this was the oldest district in New Zealand, none would have guessed the fact from the appearance of the healthy and looking children, as they gave three lusty cheers i" honour of th" Prime y'nister and . !-: s colleagues. Xor were there any si'ins of deterioration which ; s popularly s-i■>-posed tn dog tlie footsteps of the older civilisations.
