Commissioner in the Calabar district, and a well-known authority on juju rites, recently revealed'some irregularities in the native courts, accusing native clerks of being guilty of swindling and other offences against women prisoners. The friends of the clerks summoned a meeting of the chiefs, and arranged to murder the Talbots, but the plot miscarried.
