Before the Putumayo Committee Senor Arana (who wirs 1 ' manager of the company) denied that he knew of the cruelties until he saw Sir Roger Casement's report. Received 9, 10.30 p.m. Arana declared that the atrocities were much exaggerated. He was unable to explain how it was he did not bear of the atrocities when the British and United States Consuls and heads' of the Roman Catholic Church knew of them.
