LEAKY WARSHIPS.
A STRONC INDICTMENT. By Cable—Fress Association—Copyright. Received 9, 11 p.m. London, April 9. Captain Carver, late Commander of the Torch, in a letter to the Morning Post, states that over two years have elapsed since H.M.S. Torch sailed from Sydney in a condition which would render a private owner liable to penalties. No enquiry was held. The vessel still leaked in December, although the sum of £12,000 was spent in repairs. Out of nine ships comprising the Australian squadron in 1911 three were dangerously unseaworthy, and two were in a bad condition. He accused Mr. Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty, with having misstated the facts of the case.
