A man entered a Chinaman's store and asked to be shown a Winchester rifle and cartridges. He inserted a cartridge and threatened to shoot the proprietor and his two assistants unless given £2O. He was handed the contents of the till, which amounted to £l3. He then departed with a threat to kill anyone who told the police. He visited another store, and adopted the same tactics, but was forced to leave without loot. He next stuck up a horseman, and, mounting the commandeered animal, rode into the bush. A probationary constable named Brown followed the man, and after a short struggle overpowered him and lodged him in the lock-up.
