POLAR EXPLORATION.

MAWSON'S EXPEDITION. A WIRELESS WORK. INTERESTING DISCOVERIES.

By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, April 9. The wireless station in Adelie Land is now working splendidly, and Dr. Mawson is in regular communcation with the Pennant Hills station. A long message which has been received gives details of the party's doings, and mentioned that they are assailed nightly by wireless signals from far and wide. Signals are received from the Government stations in New Zealand, Melbourne and Hobart, and from warships. The message states that the work of the expedition has proved that the Antartic Continent lies much further south than Captain Wilkes' American expedition mapped it. Winter is fairly upon them, and the last penguin has departed. Terrific hurricanes are being experienced. The party frequently \ seta bottles adrift to ascertain the direction of ocean currents. It is hoped that the ship will pick up the Macquarie Island party, and arrive in Adelie Land about December 10. It is anticipated that the ice conditions will then allow the Aurora to do this. Dr. Mawson is particularly anxious that a competent physicist should join the Aurora, equipped with the pendulum apparatus to determine the figure of the earth.
