EDUCATING "THE FORCE."
A COACH ENGAGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. As the. result of complaints about the examinations imposed under the new regulations on detectives and constables desiring to qualify for promotion, the Commissioner of Police (Mr. Cullen) stated to-day that, although such examinations would not entail more than was asked from a fifth or sixth standard boy, the authorities have decided 011 a step to facilitate and encourage members of the force to prepare for advancement. They have arranged with an experienced educational coach to teach bv correspondence all candidates who contemplate sitting for the September examinations tinder the regulations. This tuition will embrace the general knowledge subjects in the syllabus, and the services of the coach will be available free of cost to any policeman or "detective in New Zealand who cares to avail himself of them. The name of the coach is kept secret at present.
