AX EGG-LAYING RECORD: By Telegraph--Press Association. Napier, Wednesday. At the Hawke's Bay Agricultural College's laying competition, in Morrinson's pen, six Indian Runner ducks, laid 1001 eggs, in twelve months, a world's record. WHOLESALE THEFTS OE FURNITURE. Wanganui, Wednesday. A sequel to a number of robberies in the town and suburbs was provided at the Police Court this morning, when four youths, aged about 19 years, pleaded guilty to nine different charges of theft. Each was fined £5 and costs. Nearly everything in the place where they "batched" had been stolen, including the mattresses and the rugs on the beds. A GARDEN FETE LOTTERY. Feilding, Wednesday. A peculiar case was decided by Mr. J. W. Poyutou, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. Two secretaries at the recent garden fete, held to raise funds for the Beautifying Society, were proceeded against for a breach'of the Gambling Act in instituting a free trip to Rotorim". disposed of by the drawing of tickets of admission to the fete. The plea entered by defendants' solicitor pointed out that the men had no personal cain. The same thing was practised in other places. The magistrate said he quite accepted the statement that no personal g:iin accrued and that the men acted quite innocently, but it was a breach of the Act and the police were right to brinp' the ease. A fine of 10s with 2s cosls in each ease was imposed.
