A 15 per cent, tax was discussed, and it is understood that the President is favorable to that proposal. SOCIETY ISLANDS COMPANY. Received 3, 1.10 a.m. London, April 2. The Society Islands Company, with a capital of £30,000, has been privately subscribed. Its object is to deal in cocoanuts. A DEFAULTING BANKER. Berlin, April 2. Gnstav Puppe, a banker at Kuestiin, has suspended payment and absconded. His liabilities amount to £1,500,000. His failure is due to land speculation. THE DEADLY HATPIN. Berlin. April 2. The police have forbidden the wearing of guardless hatpins, which is punishable by a fine of 60s.
