The Rev. Cannell, of New Plymouth, is at present spending a holiday at Lower Hutt.
Mr. Kwei Chili, the new Chinese Consul for New Zealand, arrived ia Wellington yesterday, along with his wife.
Mr. A. .S. Brooker, who has been ok a visit to Australia during the past six weeks, returned to New Plymouth oil Wednesday evening. Dr. Donaldson, M.R.C.S., aged 08 years, died after a long illness. The deceased resided in Wellington 40 years ago, and had been in Gore for 30 years.
Mr. George Young, a member of tileInglewood Borough Council, has, in response to a strong requisition, decide* to contest the Mayoralty of that town. Mr. E. Page, S.M., relieving Magistrate at New Plymouth, left yesterday for Palmerston North. Mr. A. Crooke> S.M.. is expected back at New Plymouth? on the 7th inst.
Mr. J. Farrell, representing J. C. Williamson, Ltd., arrived in New Plymouth last night to complete arrangements for the production of "The Blue Bird,"' which happens on April 1(1. Mr. George Spriggens, for some 12 years president of the Wanganui Rugby Union, was the other evening re-elected unopposed to the position for the ensuing year. The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Tbos. Cook, one of the oldest residents of Petone. Deceased was the head of the.well-known firm of Cook's Cooperage. He had been ailing for some time. Mr. A. De B. de Lisle, New 'Plymouth agent for the Government Life Insurance Department, has been promoted to Auckland. Mr. de Lisle, who has made many friends during his sojourn in New Plymouth, will leave for his new sphere on Saturday.
Another link with the early days of Auckland has been broken bv the death on Friday last, of Mrs. Ellen Bennett, who arrived in the ship Lord Burleigh,in ISotJ. The deceasul was horn iu Cornwall, on June fl. 1547, and came out to Xew Zealand with her parents, Mr. ana Mrs. John Short, who first settled at Mount Roskill, and afterwards at Tamaki. 'Mrs. Bennett leaves h<r husband', Mr. Frederick -Tabrz Bennett, a very well known old colonist, and a family of six sons and five daughters. Tim sons include Sir. A. O. Bennett, of Mann in.
