At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Stralf.o'd Hospital Hoard there were present: Messrs. K. Marfell (chairman), •1. ChristoH'el, E. Ifine, A. -Meredith, J. McAllister and J. Smith. A vote of thanks was accorded Dr. Steven for his letter of comment on the report of the Tuberculosis Conference. It was decided that Nurse Meyers' salary be raised to £7O per annum. The secretary was authorised to secure applications for a probationary nurse, subject to the superintendent's approval. It was decided to place on record the Board's sense of the value of Dr. Carbcry's services during the absence of the superintendent, and the secretary was instructed to convey to Dr. Carbery the Board's appreciation of the ability and attention shown. ,

Tenders will he invited, closing at next meeting, for supplies of groceries, bread, milk, meat and undertaking. Upon Mr. E. Marfell handing in hig resignation as a member of the Board on account of his intended absence from the Dominion for six months, the following resolution vr.'s carried, on the motion of Messrs. McAllister and ChristofTel. 'That the Board places on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr. Marfell as member and as chairman, and wishes him and his family a pleasant trip lo (he Old Country and a safe return."
Mr. J. was elected acting-chair man.
The next mooting of the Board will be held on April 29, when the estimates for 1013-14 will be brought forward for adoption. The sum of £3OO for reduction of the hank overdraft will be included in the estimates. STRAY PARAGRAPHS Al, a well-attended meeting of the Xgaire Diirv Company on Monday afternoon it was decided to increase, the capital of the company by the issue of fresh shares, and to erect a new factory, practically on the site of the old one, in time for next season's operations. The directors have had complete plans prepared by Mr. A. D. Blick, of Stratford. for a building in concrete, and, subject to minor alterations, these plans will be used for the new building. Monday's resolution has to be confirmed at a further meeting of shareholders this month. The Xgaire dairymen are to be congratulated upon making this step forward. Reports upon the condition of the present factory make one wonder bow the managers have, managed to keep up the high standard of quality for which the Ngaire factory is well known.
Mr. Athol Meredith, the popular sawmiller away out cast, chairman of the Whangamomona County Council and member if the Strafford PTospit.il Board, has purchased Mr. Oorge Gil vert's oldestablished boarding-house and storekeeping business at Strathmore. Mr. Culvert is .1 very old settler, and ,1. well-respected one. He has hosts of friends right throughout Taranaki, and all will wish him a lone; and happy life in the retirement which he has so well earned.
Mr. Eil/rsir IT. Young, for several years associated with Mr. T. C. Fookes' legal office. has left for fresh fields and pastures new. Tt was just like him to slip out so quietly, but his friends would have been only too glad to have given him tli n "send-ofT" that is his due. A stalwart footballer, a solid, plugging front-ranker, and a keen enthusiast, he was very popular with the athletic fraternity. ITe was for some time secretary of the Ptratford Football Club. Mr. Young will probably pay a visit to Australia before B»ttl>"g down, and it is on the cards that he will forswear office work and go in for something that will give him more of God's good sunshine and fresh air.
The Ngaire Dairy Company last week manufactured the usual half-ton cheese for the Manawatu Winter Show. The chairman of the company, Mr. Coleman, accompanied by Mr. C. Potts, clerk in the secretary's office, "salted" the curd with £lo worth of gold and silver coins, which will find new owners when the mammoth cheese is sold in shilling slices.
The Salvation Army harvest festival was very successful. Monday's meeting was crowded. The brass band from the Eltham corps gave a fine programme. The up-to-date mail on the land wants a quicker, safer, less laborious and less expensive style of shifting stumps than was prevalent in the pioneer (lavs. Xoble's explosives are claimed to he the very best for this work, and the experience of farmers in this district is very satisfactory. Messrs. .T. Masters & Ron, Stratford, handle Nobel's, and stock the necessary fuses, detonators and so on.
