BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY.

FURTHER UK PORT BY MR. CLIMIK. The borough electrical engineer (Air. H, I Slack) dispute-: the accuracy of the figures obtained by Air. H. W. Climie from the power-house engineer regarding the amount of power developed by ' the turbines during the demonstration trial on January •_'!). Accordingly, on March 13 .Mr. Climie made a complete new test in the presence of Air. Black. Reporting on this to the Borough Council las;, night Air.. Climie stated: ••Observations were simultaneously taken of the loss of head in the tunnel, the quantity of water being used, and the amount of power developed. The load on the station was gradually increased until the whole of the four generating sets were brought into operation. The maximum power developed, after deducting that lost in transformation and for exciting purposes, was found to be 350 kilowatts. Unfortunately, owing to the river being about It inches higher than normal when this test was made, the maximum power available under normal conditions can only be approximately determined. I estimate that it cannot exceed 300 kilowatts. The figures on which my last report was based, which were taken fcy the power-house engineer and accepted as correct. showed the .nnxiinum power available to be over 400 kilowatts. Obviously .-.nine mistake occurred in supplying these figures. In view of the fact that (he margin of power at present, available is actually much less than 1 was led to.believe when I came to the conclusions stated in my last report, I would now advise that steps be taken immediately to raise the water level at the intake, as recommended in my report of January 10. Tlic letter was referred to the Klectric Light ('onniiitice.
