The weather was bright and cool for ' the races. This was a stayers' clay, 1 there being no race except for two-year-olds under a mile and a quarter. Barios | had the best credentials as a stayer in the Rons Handicap for three-year olds,' and was a firm favorite. Tart'anus had got a lead of eight lengths when fit>a furlongs irom the post, but Barios caught him at the distance, and won easily. Jacamar, who is going to India, was a strong favorite for a place in the Hanlirap, but fa llefl to repeat his good gallops of the first two days, and wily go'; | fourth. Ilallowmass finished just as on the previous Saturday, and beat the unlucky Lochano for a place. Both steeplechases were failures from the standpoint of the number of starters, there being only four on Monday and two to-day. The Miser fell when a mile from the post, leaving Sir Lethe to canter home. Piastre's absence from the Plate was due to his off foreleg being troublesome. A long spell of rest may perhaps be necessary. Cadonia's usual pilot had not recovered from his Cup ride, and Lambert, who has done well in long races, had the mount. galloped kindly for two miles, and then, despite riding, dropped back. Though lie eame again, he was unable to wipe off the deficiency. Harpist was well ridden by McLachlan, and was never further back than second. The Nursery saw Malbrook, when showing a bold front in the straight, break his fetlock, and he had to be destroyed. A fine finish in the last race brought a very successful meeting to a close. The owners of Validol lodged notice of appeal against the stipendiary stewards' decision. Results:— Rous Handicap—Barios, 5.5 (Connell), 1; Tartainis, 7.2 (Pinn), 2; Deta, 7.3 (William) 3.
