A DEPARTING CITIZEN.

FAREWELL TO MR. GLASGOW. Mr. A. IT. Glasgow, who is about to transfer to Wanganui aftw having managed the local branch of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., for the past six years, was farewelled by clients of that institution. in the Town Hall, on Saturday. Touching on Mr. Glasgow's removal,, the Mayor {Mr. (J. W. Browne) said that it would be a great loss. Mr. Browne referred to Mr. Glasgow's keen interest in matters affecting the welfare* of the district, and his close connection with golf and kindred sports, remarking, however, that they had met there that day more particularly as clients of the hitnk with which he was connected. Their business relationships with Mr. Glasgow 'had always been of the happiest nature, and as a tangible mark of esteem he presented Mr. Glasgow with a handsome silver tea and 1 coffee service and tray, bearing the following inscription:—'To A. H. Glasgow, Esq., from clients of the U.8.A., Ltd., New Plymouth, on tha occasion of liis transfer, March 28, 1013." Mr, T. C. List voiced the. general sen» timent that in losing Mr. Glasgow they all felt they were losing a personal friend, for whom thev had great affection. Mr. Glasgow, whilst he was their banker, had always taken a personal interest in his clients and had always been ready to give them valuable advice on any business propositions they had referred to him. Mr. List went on to express the hope that Mr. Glasgow would gain, as he was sure he would, the same respect at Wanganui that he had gained during his stay here, and that in h'is newsphere he would be equally successful. To have been promoted to such an important position was a tribute to Mr. Glasgow's ability. (Applause), Mr. C. H. Weston added a tribute to the effect that he was quite sure that .from one's experience of Mr. Glasgow, he had all the qualities of a successful banker. He was alwavs ready to <*ive advice to his clients. Mr. Weston then welcomed Mr. Coghill, who succeeeds Mr. Glasgow as manager of the local branch of the Bank.

In replying, Mr. 'Glasgow thanked the speakers for their very kind words and the clients of the Blink generally for their very handsome present. He should look hack 011 the six ami a half years lie had spent in New Plymouth with the sineerest .affection. The Rank's clients had always shown him every consideration and he sincerely hoped' they would extend the same good feeling to his successor. He felt very keenly indeed leaving them all, lint he should never forget the happy time he had spent here and the pleasant relationship that had existed between 'the Bankami its clients.

The Mayor then extended to Mr. Coshill a hearty welcome, the latter gentlemen suitably responding'. Mr. Glasgow and Mr. Cocfhill were subsequently 'toasted." with musical honors, at the Club. GOLF CLUB'S FAREWELL.

Mr. and Mrs. Glasgow have been enthusiastic members of the Xew Plymouth Golf Club, and opportunity was taken by members to tender them a farewell afternoon tea at the links on Saturday afternoon, During -the afternoon a presentation of a travelling vug was made to ATr. and Mrs. Glasgow by the President (Mr. C. 11. Burgess), oil behalf of the members, who, he said, keenly regretted their departure. The President paid a warm tribute to both Mr. and Mrs. Glasgow, who would be missed in more than one connection.

The Club captain (Mr. ,T. Pa toil) fallowed in a similar strain, and both guests feelingly responded. Mr. Glasgow leaves for his new sphere this morning.
