WAITARA EOAD. (From Our Own Correspondent). The Huiraugi annual school and settlers' picnic was held last week iu Mr. Andrews' paddock, and was well attended. The day was all that could he desired. The afternoon was taken up ivth races, etc.,.for the children, and a large collection of various articles purchased by the committee enabled nearly everv child to get a prize. Four o'clock :,av/tho children at the hall, where they partook of a good tea, which ended the children's portion of the day. The adults afterwards sat down to a good tea. 'Mr. .'leli'eries. of Waitara, catering. The rest of the evening was taken up with races, etc.. for the adults, and the night finished off with the usual dance. The series of euchre parties commences in the Huiraugi Hall on April <), and continues fortnight!;,- through the viator. well fr.r this time of the year. Feed is plentiful, and steed; is in good condition urnl milking well. The prospects for the winter are very bright. Many farmers have a supply of maize, etc., to carry them well on, root crops, both iu mangolds and carrots, are looking weil, and give promise of heavy yields.
