WATER IN THE MILK.

LIABILITY OF VENDORS. By Telegraph— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A local milk vendor was fined 40s and costs at the Magistrate's Court to-day for soiling milk containing more water than is permitted by statute. Counsel for the Health Department said that analysis showed that 17.3 per cent, of water had been added. Counsel for the defence said his client had not watered the milk, nor had any of his agents, therefore, he was not guilty of any moral turpitude. However, a plea of guilty would have to be entered; for too large «a proportion of water, that was no excuse if analysis proved that the water exceeded the proportion allowed by the Act.
