POLO.
NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association, Palmerston North, .Thursday. The New Zealand Polo Tournament opened here to-day in fair weather. The event has created very great interest, and a large number of visitors are in town, nearly 200 polo ponies being brought here to-day. The Saville Cup games included the star event, Mangahera (Uisborne) v. Hawke's Bay, the former, who were favourites, winning eventually after a magnificent uphill fight. The other events were more or less one-sided. In justice to Hamilton, it mifst be said that they got here today and played after travelling all night on the Main Trunk line.
The results of to-day's play are as follows:—Harwarden A. (Canterbury) beat Manawatu, (5 goals to 3, Harwarden B beat Fera Flats (Rangitikei) 11 to 4, Mangahera defeated Hawke's Bay by G goals to 5, Rangitikei defeated Hamilton bv 11 to 2.
