ATHLETICS.

LXiiLKWOOD SPORTS. MARKED BY EAJX. The Ingleuood Athletic Club wore distinctly unfortunate yesterday in the matter of weather. They had put on a really good programme of varied items, including running, cycling, chopping, tire brigades and several novel events, for all of which big prize money was awarded. Good entries had been received in every ease, and all that was needed for a successful financial issue was that the weather should behave kindly. This, however, it could not be prevailed upon to do, as the morning broke threateningly, and the threat culminated in rain. Indeed, at 11 a.m. it looked aa if it would he necessary to postpone the sports. However, after a delay of an hour and a half, the weather looked brighter, and the committee wisely decided to carry on. Fortunately the elements were on better behaviour in tiie afternoon. The inclement weather a fleeted the attendance, only t'-'-S being taken at the gate, as against an anticipated €.30. The delay in starting naturally disorganised arrangements somewhat, but the capable and energetic secretary. Mr. flibbs, and his assistant. Mr. Williams, soon remedied this, and kept the ball rolling merrily. All the officials, too. worked well, and, bar the financial disappointment, everything went satisfactorily. The big acceptances and the energy displayed by the men in''charge of the sheep-guessing and chain stepping should materially assist the financial end. There were good fields in all the events, and the competition was good: indeed, the judges had difficulty in sorting the winners in some of the running and chopping events. The inclusion of the latter, was a distinct success, and the log committee (Messrs. •T. Cleave and Henry) did not delay in erecting the logs up to time. The obstacle race proved exciting and amusing. Captain Rolston was kept busy a!i tlie afternoon with running off the fire brigade events. Mr. fieo. Young, who had charge of the refreshment tent for the. club, was. with his hand of assistant*},' fully emnloved. The principal officials responsible for the successful conduct of the gathering under such conditions were —Judges. Messrs. TT. Thomson, 0. S. Kennedy and W. Lightfoot (runnimrl, W. Percival. C. LEPPERTOX-SKXTRV HILL SPORTS.

Owing to the. inclemency of the weather and counter attractions there was not a large attendance at the above sports yesterday, which were held on the Racecourse at Lepperton. The rain partly eased oil' in the afternoon, and almost all the events were put throng'-:, though the cycling events fell through for want of competitors. All honor is due to Mr. P. Sampson, the secretary, and to the energetic officials in charge of affairs, viz.. judges, Messrs. C. Lepper and Moutoliore (horse events); handicappers, Messrs. E. Hellier and Jennins; starters, Messrs. Matthews and R. Tate; timekeeper, Mr. Creiner. The events resulted:—
