The Taranaki (X.Z.) Oil Wells. Ltd/s Xo. 1 well at. Bell Block is down to a depth of lfi'2o feet, flood formation ia being passed through, with improved gas indications. This also applies to Xo.
bore, which is down to 1250 feet and is cased to within ten feet of the bottom. The 8-inch casing is down to the bottom of Xo.' 1 bore.
Tho company report that about-a week ago exhaustive test* wore made of tho pas issues encountered in Xo. 1 well at lie!! Block. Several sa mules from Bell Block and Xo. 3 and 5 wells, Mofui'oa, were tested, and comparisons made with a view to determining the relative constituents of the gases in these wells. All three samples -burnt similarly in a, more or less luminous flame, and all reacted with the re-agents for carbon dioxide, olefine hydrocarbons and methane. No sulphur was detected in any of the gases, and from these tests it is reasonable to assume that the gases emanating from the Bell Bloek bore indicate that oil trata may be looked for lower down.
