GOOD TEMPLARY.
VISITING DELEGATES WELCOMED.
Tne biennial conference of Grand: Lodge officers and delegates in connection with the Independent Order of Good Templars opens in New Plymouth, this morning. On Sunday the delegates attended the Presbyterian Church,, where an official sermon in connection with the session was preached, while in the evening a gospel temperance meeting was held in the Presbyterian Church. Yesterday the visitors were welcomed in the evening, first by the Juvenile Lodge and next by the Egmont Lodge.
At 8 p.m. the delegates were accorded a public welcome. The Mayor (Mr. G. W. Browne) presided, and in a brief and impressive manner welcomed the visitors on behalf of the citizens of NewPlymouth.
Bro. G. ITartnell, Chief Templar of the. Egfhont Lodge of the 1.0. G.T., welcomed the visitors on behalf of the local Reebabites; Mrs. Douglas on behalf of the W.C.T.U.; the Rev. T. H. Roseveare on behalf of the local No-License League, and the Rev. J. W. Burton on behalf of the local Ministers' Association.
Suitable response was made by Bro. G. Andrews (Grand Chief Templar of the Ashburton Lodge), Bro. D. G. Cameron (Past Grand Chief Templar of the Wellington Lodge) and Bro. A. B. Thompson (Grand Councillor, of the Wellington Lodge). ,
During the evening recitations were given by Miss Iverson and Mr. G. Petherick.
