NEW BAPTIST CHURCH.
A HANDSOME EDIFICE. Good progress is being made with the. erection of the new Baptist Church on the corner of Lemon and Liardiet street. The foundation- are of a. verv substan- ', rial nature, consisting of reinforced, concrete, and a .-tart has been mad-' with the building proper. The Sunday School will be accommodated in the hall underneath the building. The church, when completed will cost, exclusive of the "-round (which was ejven bv Mr. O. If. Maunder) £\:m. The whole structure will lie of re-iuforccd concrete. The. design will be on the lines of the lonic style, and the church should make, a very handsome addition to '.he architecture of '.he town. The church proper will seat 200 people, and there will he an'-ile provision for future exlc-r.-ion. The schoolroom, which will be divided into class rooms, will accommodate nearly 2(10 children. Provision is made for tin 1 Baptistry and the choir will be seated on a raised platform. Including the proceeds from the sale of the old church and site, the funds available will comprise £l2oO. It is hoped to rai-e another £IOO before the buibling is occupied. The whole debt, it is anticipated, will be cleared oil' inside of twelve months. The contractors for the building are Messrs. Coleman and Sons. The foundation stone will be laid next Thursday. The cercmonv will be performed by the Uevs. S. F. Hales and W. Drew. a. former pa-tor of the (Jill Street Church.
