MINES AND RAILWAYS.
MR. ASQUITII OPPOSES NATIONALISATION. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Received IS. 10.30 p.m. London. March IS. Mr. Asquith, replying to a deputation from the Trade Union Congress, said that he was opposed to the nationalisation of mines. The nationalisation in Prussia had proved unsatisfactory. The nationalisation of the railways in England would be immediately followed by demands from traders for better rates, and from workers for better wages and shorter hours, absorbing the expected profits. The recent tremendous strain on Parliament had accounted for the Government marking time in social reform.
