THE KOHUHATAHI BABY SHOW Messrs. 1!. Masters, D. .T. Malone and . B. Fearon, who journeyed out to the Kolmratahi sports oil Tuesday, returned to .Stratford' yesterday morning, after having an enjoyable time, though the sports were somewhat marred by the rain. The piece de resistance at the sports was the baby show, for which some twenty of the pride of the cast had entered. Our townsmen proved a Codsend in this respect, as none of the local authorities cared to accept the onerous position of judge of the infants. A couple of deputations at once approached i Messrs. Masters and Co. on the question. | P>ob absolutely declined to he inveigled ■ into the position, but after some persuasion Dan and I'arney agreed to face the music. Competition was so keen that the judges had to give a considerable amount of thought before awarding the prizes. In doing so they remarked that the babies were the finest lot they had ever seen, and that they had considerable difficulty in making the award. The result was a win for Mrs. lJartnell's boy, Mrs. JTassell's girl oeing second. The announcement gave general satisfaction, although of course there were one or two disappointed mothers. There always are at baby shows: indeed, one unsuccessful mother was beard to remark to '| a sympathetic friend, "What do they know about babies, anyhow." The judges slept that night at Wliangamomona, six miles distant.
