MANAWATU MYSTERY.

JVEMAINK IDENTIFIED. Oh "Mai-ell FVth -i Press Association message was received from Palmerston North stating that a body had been found in the Manawatu Kivor. but that I there was no ; identifying who the deceased was or where he hailed from. We i very much regret lo have to state that know it is practically assured that the remains .are those of Mr. William 11. Mackay, well known in this district, and son of' Mr. Joseph Mackav. M.A., of New i Plymouth. Yesterday. Mr. Charles Mackav, of Wanganui, proceeded to Palmcrston, and from evidence adduced was convinced that the remains are those of' his brother, William. Mr. Frank Mackav, of Stanley lload. another brother of was also communicated with and left hy the mail (vain this morniii" \ for Palmci'ston North. From all that can b? «athrred—although the. all'aiv must to a lar;-c extent remain shrouded in mystery—there is sufficient evidence (o convince the members of Mr. 1 Mackay's family that he came by his deatli in some accidental fashion about Hive? months ago. Since December last, efforts to locate him have been futile. Mr.rh svmnathy will be extended to Mr. end Mrs. Maekay. sen., and to the members of the family in this further blow which lias befallen them.—Stratford Post.
