WHAXCAMOMOXA. i (From Our Own Correspondent). J Lust week a very successful "at home" I was given by Mrs. Calgher to the ladies J of Whanga., who took this opportunity j to bid their hostess and her children j "good-bye." J At a recent meeting of the organ comj mittee, presided over by Air. P. Long, it was decided to organise a social, to be held in a month's time, to pay off the balance owing on the instrument. The tennis mutch, Whanga v. Te Wera, resulted in a decided win for the local ( team. In the evening the visitors were entertained at a very enjoyable social and dance in the. Town Hall. During the evening vocal items were given by Hiss Furgussou and Mr. Fawkner. Mr. L. Dean, who last week met with a painful accident to his ankle, is at present in the Stratford Hospital, but is progressing favorably. The Methodist preacher, Rev. F. Frost, paid his farewell visit to Whanga. on Sunday last. He will he greatly'missed here, as during his ministry he has made himself popular with all creeds and sects. On Wednesday last Mr. Calgher invited the gentlemen of Whanga. to an evening party at his residence. A most enthusiastic and enjoyable evening was spent. Mr. and Mrs. Calgher and their family left Whanga. on Thursday. The coming improvement in the railway service will be a boon to the ladies of this part of the world, as it will do away with tlio necessity of taking a late train from Stratford and arriving in Whanga. close on midnight during the winter months. We are to be favored with a mid-day train twice a week. 'Great progress has been made with the railway lately, and in a month or two we expect to hear the train '-tooting" its way into our township.
