THE WELLINGTON CARNIVAL
i —"— [ AX UXIIEHEAIISED INCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Wellington's Easter Carnival, or- - ganised for the purpose of raising funds to carry out a scheme of beautifying «ity reserves, was inaugurated on Satur- ' day with a gala at Lyall Bay. The weather was wet in the morning, but cleared up in the afternoon, and a large crowd witnessed a programme made up of comic events, including a farce —the landing of Captain Cook and his reception by Maoris in full war panoply. The most amusing part, however, was not on the programme, the capsizing of the two boats in which Captain Cook and his party were landing. Fortunately the "discoverers" suffered uo damage beyond getting wet.
