MONTHLY MEETING. Tin* n>ual meeting of the Moa Road. Board was lield at Jnglewood, on Saturday, when then* were present: —Messrs. IL. Trimble (chairman), W. 11 Bishop, G. A. Bridgenuui, .1. Collingwood. A. Chard,' A. Gorki!!, A. E. Laurence, M. IJopson; and .). Williams. EG.MONT ROAD. The New Plymouth Tourist and Expansion , League wrote thanking the Board for the work done on the Egmont North Road, and promised to further the Board's interest when approaching the Government. ilr. G .T. Murray agreed to the proposals submitted by the Board at its last meeting for the expenditure -.f the £SO grant on the Egmont North Boad. NORFOLK WEST. The Chairman reported that at the request of Messrs. Perrott and Kelly, he had visited the Norfolk Road West. After a thorough examination he agreed that if Messrs. Perrott and Kelly, and .Mr. Duckett would put an equal amount oE time with the foreman in working on the Road above Bedford Road, the foreman would work four days, two getting metal and the balance repairing the formation beyond the metal. The Board will cart and spread the metal. The chairman's action was confirmed. LEPPER ROAD. Mr. Lawrence reported that he had inspected this road, north of the llurstliouse Road. The length .%bove the creamery to the Mountain Road (five chains) was worn out .beyond patching, and he suggested that the Board recast it with (i Inches of metal, which would take (il vards. I laid on top. If something was not done I it would be in a bad state this winter. The new metal near the manager's bouse required attention. The report was adopted, and tenders will be called for 00 yards of metal. THE MONTHLY STATEMENT. The monthly statement showed receipts amounting to £1921 10s Id (rates £l9lO 13s 7d).' The expenditure was £28!) His 7d. The bank balance showed credits to loan account of £l2l 9s 9d, and to general account of £2190 10s 4d. FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Foreman Wilmshurst. reported that various contracts were completed on the Upland Road South. Two culverts there were collapsing and required renewing with pipes. He had renovated the decking on the Bedford Road South bridge. Work was required on the Upland North Dudley, Windsor, Egmont North and South" Roads.—Work to be attended to rs time permits. R. Jones reported that he had been engaged on maintenance work on the Johns, Surrey and Richmond Roads. The Norfolk Road West Creek had been cleaned, and measured up for pipes. Foreman Knofflock reported that he had been chiefly engaged patching, blinding, banking up metal, cleaning water tables, etc. Three- metal contracts had been completed. Work was required on the York, Dudley East and Richmond Roads. 1 | Foreman W. Bennett reported that he had been engaged on the Kaimata. Ratapiko and Motutawa lloads. The first bridge on this fast road was very unsafe for heavy traffic, as all the timber was rotten. Metal contracts were progressing favourably. LOAN EXTINGUISHED, The Treasury wrote to the effect that twenty-six years having elapsed since the Board converted its debt of £2BOO (a portion of the £3000) under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act; 1880; this amount bad been deducted from the total indebtedness of the Board. The Board's loan account now stood at total debt £32,039 8s Sd and the half, yearly interest was £734 7s 3d. NEW METAL PIT. Mr. Chard reported that a, new pit had been discovered on the King Road, and it was thought that metal could be got there instead of bringing boulders out of the river and carting them some distance. —Left in the hands of Mr.' Chard with power to act. I GENERAL. I Mr, A.Smith (Ratipiko) asked thej Board to do something to alter the grade of the stiff hill on the Ratapiko Road. He pointed out that the Stratford County workmen were in the vicinity, and that the present time would be a j favourable opportunity.—lt was resolv- [ eil to expend up to £■> and to arrange
with the Stratford County Council if possible. Mr. J. T. Hughes asked the Board to send tlie foreman along to tlie Rugby Road for a dav or two and he would assit with the ploughing. —Bequest granted. The Stratford County Clerk forwarded cheque for £5 to assist in giving Mr. F. M. Ktandish access on the Motuhawa Road. .Mr. Ffivier wrote re contract forfeited to the effect that lie would have done the work but that lie understood he would have to pay the wheel tax. lie asked -the' Board not to forfeit his deposit. —Xo action was taken. Accounts amounting to £312 10s 8d general and £3 lis loan were passed for payment.
