MUNICIPAL REFORMS. . ißy Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. The City Council to-night a/iinned the J principle of the establishment of tcpkl baths, but threw out a proposal to pro- j vide for family laundries. Both pro- j posals were brought forward by Cr. Tregear. who also moved that the Council should consider the question of establishing a municipal farm adjacent to the city for the purpose of a market garden. ! This was rejected by six votes to five. A REEFTON GOLD MINE. Reef ton, Friday. A magnificent find of golden stone is reported in the Pride of Reefton mine. The reef is 2f Gin wide, showing the gold streak. The mine is a continuation of the Gladstone-Dillon tunnels abandoned some- years ago. The gold runs in streaks through the stone. RIOTOUS RAILWAYMEX. Gisborne, Friday. A fracas is reported from Motu, where it is alleged men from the railway works knocked a butcher off a cart, seriously injuring him. Subsequently being refused drinks at a hotel, they broke the windows and had to be threatened with a revolver -before they desisted. ALLEGED INSANITY. Auckland, Friday. The man Johnson, who escaped from the mental hospital at Avondalc some months ago and recently returned to town of his own. accord, being placed on 21 days' probation, was examined by three medical men, who testified that he was not insane. The statements were submitted to Dr. P.eattie, asylum superintendent, with the result that a certificate was issued for Johnson's immediate discharge from the institution.
