J £Bw "Moturoa."i ,) The Opunake annual meeting takes' place on Monday. Good acceptances are -carded, and given fine weather, an en-; joyable outing awaits those who are fortunate enough to be able to make the' trip. Half a dozen horses figure in the, Cup, run over a mile and a ouarter. Tetikura has been running consistently of late, and will probably start favour-, ite. Of the others. Minora mar have, most followers. Hurdle rae.es in this province are generally best left alone. unless one is lucky enough to be "in the know." On form Timothy and Clemency should run well. Master Sylvia.' who will make his debut over sticks is said to jump fairly, and the running of the local horse will be followed with interest. The Firing frTrandican looks, open, but Simple Sam and Crawford mayv ■carry most of the money. Simple, Sam-. has "a liking for the Opunake course and c win f or thn little fellow is long overdue. Tlie iminor events promise to attract bfc fields, and the racing shonld be well worth watching. The Easter meetings are now just' a week ahead. On Saturday next Auckland and Wairarapa Clubs will set the ball rolling, and on Easter Monday there will be racimr'at Ellerslie. Riccarton, Feilding. and a host of minor places. It is. a wonder that our Opunake friends hare not made an effort to secure Easter Monday for their annual meeting. Far more people could get away on that day than on the 17th. Acceptances and final payments for most Easter gatherings closed last evening, so punters should hare a busy time ahead "spotting" the winners.

Te Waharoa and Prophet are most favoured for the Brighton Hurdle Race. If Sandv Paul makes the trip he should keep his opponents fairly warm.

Gladiole will not be sent to Riccarton this Easter, but will be given a flutter -in sprint events at Feilding.

Achilledes, who scored at Nelson on Thursday is bv Achilles out of the once speedy mare Dexterity. At the Te Aroha meeting last week R. 13. Brown rode five winners and C. Brown was on three. Sir Knox, whose entries for the Wairarapa meeting arrived too late, will, race at Feilding instead this Easter. Sinapis started a firm favourite in the big race at N<d>on on Wednesday. I>ut 0.11 stopped her. and Ceylon just walked in. Sinapis is to be kept for gnorter distances in future. Imagination and Bleriot were given a foin at Ellerslie a few days ago. and at the end of a fast-run mile the Wainirana horse was in front of the crack northerner. Tlu-re will he a different tale to tell next week. Coroniform. who was suffering from a cold when racing at Duncdin. is now reported to !>:• verv well, and should run well at the forthcoming Canterbury

meeting. M"r. Durrant. owner of Sinapis. won a race ;<' Ne'-on on Wedne-'.-iv with. Commotion (bv Sensation). The Blenheim sportsman has had a good run of luck at "the game." My Lawyer, who failed badly at Wingatiii the other dav. has been turned out for a long spell, and may not be raeed ajain until the spring. Seatondale and Wild West, at latest advices, were still in the Doncaster Handicap. Neither could hav" ni"i" than the roughest of chances with the cream of 'Stralia's sprinters. Starda peer's withdrawal »"rom *b" Great Autumn Handicap was necessitate! bv the injuries she received while racing at Wingatni recently. Seaman, who was sold to his trainer for a mere bagatelle recently, gathered in a hurdle race.
