The hard-working ladies who have for so'iie time past presided over the various Junctions in connection with the school hn\e now disbanded, after some vow excellent results have' been' attained, amongst which are the acquisition of a piano, a large supply of apparatus for gymnasium work, and the seats which are to be seen in the playground. I venture to think that the successful carrying out of the many very delightful functions which these ladies'have managed in the past will not readily be forgotten, especially the last fancy dress ball, which will possibly never be eclipsed it, this town. The ladies took advantage of her presence to bid farewell to Miss Papp.s, who is now to reside in Stratford, and whose place also it will be a task of some difficulty to fill at all satisfactorily. The show is, I hear, now receiving some good entries, and it is very dei sirous of obtaining many more, as there | will be any amount of accommodation. I It will be a good hilp if patrons will j look around for exhibits, to make ;a I success of the function.

The Inglewood Operatic Society held ilieir a mum I meeting last Tluirsdaj", when the balance-sheet, showed that (hero was a substantial credit-balance as a result of the last year's working. They also possess the complete staging properties for two operas as assets. A committee was set up to choose another opera for the ensuing winter, and directly the die is east rehearsals, will commence, as it is hoped to stage a production earler in the year than formerly. Many new members were elected, and altogether there, are good prospects in sight, although the Society has suffered ii very severe loss in the transference to Oamaru of Mr. .T. IT. "Rowe, whose acting lias been such a delight to Inglewood audiences. The .Swimming Club's daylight sports on the 13th will, if the weather be favorable, doubtless attract -a. good number; although it is unfortunate it is fixed for the same date as the Maori Water Carnival. The prizes are both numerous and costly, as tliev say of \veddinsf pros-? puts, and are well worth goo.d fields and good competition, -which it is expected will be obtained, the only trouble being ihat there does not seem' to be a great deal of fresh blood coming to the front in this sport, which is so'deserving of' encouragement. ;•
