MONTHLY REPORTS. 1 Tin- various monthly report* will lie considered at to-night's meeting of the Borough Council, WORKS C'OiOII'L'TEK. .1 he Works Committee recommends: — 'I li-'t the following report from the S:reet Lighting .Special Committee be adopted by the Council: (a) That the plans submitted showing street lighting in St. Aubyn. Motiiroa, Wesiown anil Frankley Road be' approved, and the electrical engineer be authorised to instal the lights its follow: 'Tukapa street. Westown (formerly Elliot Road) 12 lights. Frankley Road !) lights, Frankleigh Park "> lights. SI. Aubyn and Motiiroa !' lights; (b) that the following street lights be also installed:—Beach Road (near public pound), I light: Waiwaka Terrace (intersection of Chilman street). 1 light; Maugorci Road. 1 light; Hobson Street at intersection of Leach street. 1 light; (Jill street extension (east side of Huatoki bridge), 1 light; Avenue Road, 2 lights; Victoria. Esplanade (between Dawson street and Weymouth street), 1 light; total. 4.'! lights; (e) That Mrs. Corry's application for street light in Fillis street he referred to the electrical engineer to report upon. 3. That Mr. P. Flanagan be granted a license for a billiard room in building on part section (iliS. Devon street. 4. That Mr. W. A. Collis be reappointed the Council's representative on the Egmont National Park Board. 0. That the following matters be referred to the Estimates Committee for favourable consideration: —(a) Recommendation of Borough Engineer to lav down a piece 'of road in concrete as a test; (b) Recommendation of the Borough. Engineer for the purchase of two more trailers (esti- : mated cost £100); (c) footbridge across the Huatoki Stream at Pcndarves street | (estimated cost £120; (d) footbridge across Huatoki Stream at Taranaki I Lane (estimated cost £120); (e) Reeom!l (herniation of Borough Engineer for employment of draughtsmen; (f) Purchase of oat crusher and four-horse power [ electric motor for driving same; (g) i purchase of tar sprayer; (h) purchase of.second water cart. 7. That the following tenders be accepted:—Additions to I Cemetery cottage. W. E. Cliff, £1.12; adI ditions to Borough stables. IT. H. Grayj ling, £l7l. 8. That the following tendI ers be accepted for the annual supplies ! for the ensuing year:—Cement, E. GrifI fitlis and Co.; horse shoeing, R. H. Sole; I coal and firewood, J. Ward and Son; | oils, etc., 11. Ward and. Co.; waterworks and general hardware. Bellringer Bros.. Limited. 0. That the Borough Engineer be instructed to remove the parapet on the south side of the bridge over the Huatoki Stream in Devon street, and that the marble slab be handed back to the representatives of the late Mr. Henry Hooker. 11. That the Borouglr Engineer be authorised to proceed -with the laying of sewers in Clover street, Cameron sl;eet and-Feudal'ves street.. PRIVATE LIGHTING EXTENSIONS.

A few more poles are | required for extension of secondary lines i in this district and also Westown,'Those [ we have on order will lie about sufficient to complete these lines. A further small shipment has just arrived. A shipment of transformers has also just arrived. As some more of tile original poles are showing signs of decay they are being attended to and replaced where necessary. A number of street lamp arms have become badly corroded, and are being replaced. The total connections to date- for private lighting, etc., number ,1053. , , ' : ELECTRIC LIGHT WORKS. The Electric Light Committee recommends: —That Mr. Climie be'requested to make a further: test at the, .Eorebay as soon as possible. That the Electrical Engineer be instructed to. report; upon .the question of lowering the bed of the stream into which the tail ra.ee di^ : 'charges, the advantages to be' gained thereby, and the estimated cost" of the work. BOROUGH ENGINEER'S REPORT."' The Borough Engineer reports as follows:—Approximately 1000 cubit yards of metal have been laid down in- repairing. including Devon street. The motor is giving every satisfaction, the cost ,o.f power being, slightly over Id per cubit yard. Mr. J. G. M. Tim S" water main on South Road is laid to the old Mission House, and should, bp., completed to Moturoa. Road b.v ilurch lOl.li, Out of a total of 300 pipes, delivered, lIS were cracked. Five water'connections have been made for the j'nontli'. Loan [Works, (streets) —The formation in Moles worth street East is completed, anjl'onlv requires eounter-smking :to receive the metal. The footpath is. :just about completed and covered with gaol gravel. ! Gaine street formation , wi11..,1)0 completed and ready for -metalling, in., three weeks. Leach street formation, is progressing satisfactorily and should be completed in six weeks. Six. teams and ten men are employed on this work. Sewers aiul Young street sewers are now completed. The. -Avenue Road sewer is now completed-to section 1944. Thirteen scwey connections 'huV6 been made this month The Carnesfi.o Institute' Committee recommends: —That the question of purchasing bound copies of Hansard for the Library be deferred to the first'meeting of the next financial year. Tint -the custodian's report dealing with the mutilation of papers be referred to ,the Council, asking- if this committee has power to prosecute those persons -who are caught destroying their property. That Osram lights lie placed in the Library replacing the present carbon dues. That an edition, of "A Guide to Roads" be procured for the Library.
