The resignation of Mr. C. T. Mills as the representative of Taranaki on the Council, owing to pressure of business, was'received. ; The chairman explained that the vacancy would be filled by the Council, who would welcome any nomination forwarded for the district. The chairman addressed the meeting explaining the position of the Society generally and the advantages to be derived from membership, and particularly the de.-. : r;:bility of forming a district branch in Taranaki, "as had been done in all other districts. The objects of the branch, he explained, would be to take charge of the district library, and see that it was made available to members, to arrange for the renting of a room and the appointment of a secretary for local business. He said that the Council of the Society would furnish the room and vote an annual grant of such an amount as might be necessarv for local expenses. Mr. Clarke explained the working of the Students' Society, and urged that the students in this district should be encouraged to form such a society. He also offered to do all in his power, when in the district, to assist the branch and to lecture to its members at a later date. On the motion of Messrs. Montcath and Buxton, it was unanimously resolved that this meeting approves of the' formation of a branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants in the Taranaki district, and decides to take the necessary steps to convene a meeting for that purpose. Messrs. Monteath, Medley. Buxton and IT. Baily were appointed a committee to further tlte project.
